A Short History of The Spice Girls

Most of you will know The Spice Girls as that dubious pop quartet who have caused so much embarrassment to British people abroad, helped the music industry attempt to blandardise our youth culture and kill the integrity and reputation of British music. However this state of affairs was not always the case.

Back in 1992 the four girls, inspired by the likes of Huggy Bear and other riot grrl bands of the time, got together in Victoria (Posh) Spice's dad's cavernous garage with drums and guitars and gave the neighbours something to complain about. They were all in their mid twenties except for Ginger Spice who was just turning 30, none of them had any experience of the music industry, they couldn't play their instruments and couldn't sing. That's what punk is all about.

After four rehearsals and with three hastily written songs the girls took a cash donation from Victoria's dad to fund their first recordings. It is these recording which you can download on this page.

These recordings later came to the attention of media mogul Simon Fuller who took the girls from their dad's garage, persuaded them to leave the guitars and drums behind and took them to pop stardom devoid of integrity or interest. It is a sad situation and one that is not unique (the music industry was also responsible for turning early girl band punk pioneers 'We've Got a Fuzz Box and we're Gonna Use It' into yet another vacuous chart band ('Fuzzbox') back in the eighties along with many other attempts to halt GRRRL power in its raw and culturally significant tracks).

Having said that we would never refuse the kind of money the music industry throws at bands such as the Spice Girls and neither would you if you had the chance. That's why we've decided to give you the first 7 digits of SIMON FULLER'S private mobile phone number. It's up to you. If you want fame that bad then you'll be willing to go through the 999 combinations that will put you directly through to Mr.Fuller's ear.

Good Luck...
